Spicy Southwest Turkey Burgers Recipe

Ingredients

  • Ingredients:
  • - 1 lb 93% lean ground turkey
  • - 1 tsp chili powder
  • - 1 tsp cumin
  • - 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • - 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • - Salt and pepper to taste
  • - 1 avocado sliced
  • - 1 tomato sliced
  • - Lettuce leaves
  • - Sliced onion
  • - Southwest sauce or chipotle mayo
  • - Pepper jack cheese optional

Instructions

  • Cooking Instructions:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey with chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix gently to avoid making the patties dense.
  • Divide the mixture into four equal portions and form each into a patty.
  • Make a small indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
  • Place the formed patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during cooking.
  • Preheat a cast iron skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat until hot.
  • Lightly oil the pan if necessary to prevent sticking.
  • Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  • If using, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
  • Assemble the burgers by placing each patty on a bun and topping with avocado, tomato, lettuce, onion, and a generous dollop of southwest sauce or chipotle mayo. Each turkey patty contains 26 grams of protein, which makes them a great choice for a nutritious meal.
  • For the best flavor and texture, remember to refrigerate the formed patties before cooking and to check their internal temperature with a meat thermometer.
  • Feel free to customize the toppings based on your preferences—adding pickled jalapeños or roasted peppers can also enhance the southwest flair.
  • Enjoy your homemade spicy southwest turkey burgers!
